Obituary for Jerry Drew Bayton
Jerry Drew Bayton, 54 of Kansas City, Missouri, died on Aug. 23, 2019 from complications related to Multiple Myeloma Cancer at KU Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends.
The Kansas City Fire Department memorial to honor those who have Fallen In The Line Of Duty will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 1, at Firefighters Union Hall, 6320 Manchester Ave. Kansas City, Missouri 64133. Jerry Drew’s Celebration of Life will follow at 6 p.m. on Sept. 1, at The Levee, 16 West 43rd Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64111.
Jerry Drew was born in Fairbanks, Alaska on April 4, 1965. He graduated from Hickman Mills High School and continued on to The University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, as well as attending Indiana State University.
Jerry Drew worked as a professional drummer after college, creating and performing in multiple bands throughout his life. Jerry Drew became a firefighter for the Kansas City Fire Department in 1991, where he worked for 25 years, being promoted to Captain in 2008. Jerry loved his time with the Fire Department and has many lifelong friends as a result. Following his cancer diagnosis in 2012, he created his current band, Superstar Mafia, where he performed at many localities throughout the Midwest, most notably Jazzoo this past June, 2019. He enjoyed playing music, coaching little league football, watching his sons in organized sports, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jerry Drew is survived by his two sons, Taylor and Brendan Bayton; mother, Marianne Bayton; sister, Angela Bayton Langford, her husband, Jim Langford, and their five children: Wesley, Joseph, Samuel, Olivia and Grace; brother, Gary Bayton, his wife, Lani Bayton, and their daughter Kayla; girlfriend, Marcy Fletcher; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jerry Drew is preceded in death by his father Jimmy W. Bayton.
