Obituary for Ramona West
Ramona Leda (Shubkagel) (Tolle) West, 86, passed peacefully on Monday at her daughter’s home in Stilwell, Ks. Ramona was born on the family farm in Frankfort, Kansas on July 20, 1929. She was named valedictorian of Marshall County in 1943 and following graduation from high school, Mona (as her friends called her) began her career with the U.S. Government in Kansas City and later transferred to the VA hospital in Topeka. She retired in Kansas City from the Department of Agriculture with over thirty years of government service. Mona liked to cook for anyone who would come to eat and also enjoyed several trips to Germany and Australia to visit her daughter and family while they lived there; but her true love was gardening. Residing in the same apartment complex for the past 39 years, she was known for the beautiful flowers she grew and the many life-long friends she made while tending to them. Ramona is preceded in death by her loving parents, Edward Henry Shubkagel and Leda Garnett (Bailey) Shubkagel, her brothers Melvin, Marvin, Robert (Bob) and his wife Betty. She is survived by her brother Kenneth Lloyd Shubkagel and wife Pearl Ann of Marysville, Kansas, her son Rodney Tolle and wife Virginia, daughter Brenda Hinkle and husband John (Mike), as well as her grandchildren Scott Tolle, Angela Perkins (Kyle), Jeffrey Hinkle (Michelle), Johnelle Sweet (Brad) and step-grandson Bryan Hinkle (Melissa). She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as her nephew Steve Shubkagel (Mary) and loving niece Linda Rouselle (Ken). A memorial/visitation will be held at the Souder Family Funeral home, 1333 NE Barry Road, KCMO on Friday 10/16 at 1:00 p.m., with private burial on Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Frankfort, Kansas. Our sincere gratitude is extended to KC Hospice and Palliative Care for their overwhelming support and for the kind and loving care provided by her nurse, Ellen and aide Danielle as well as many other members of their staff. Prayers and condolences may be posted and viewed at www.souderfamilyfuneralhome.com Your prayers for her eternal peace are truly appreciated.
