Obituary for Brent Boyd Shaw
Brent Boyd Shaw, age 64, of Kansas City, Missouri and of Chaska, Minnesota opened his eyes to the Glory of his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 18, 2018 with Alzheimer's disease. A Celebration of Life service will be November 10th, 2018 at 11:00 am at Northland Baptist Church, 7101 NW Waukomis Drive, Kansas City, Mo. 64151. Burial will be at a later date in Garden of Devotions Section of Cedar Valley Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Falls, Iowa next to his parents and daughter Amanda Jane. Lunch along with a Good Old Jam session follow the service for family and friends.

Brent Boyd Shaw was born on November 15, 1953, in Waterloo, Iowa to Donna Kathleen (Carroll) Shaw and John Milton Shaw. May 1961, Brent at age 8 was baptized at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church. After the service, he ran out of the church screaming "I am saved, I am saved!!" This was indeed the beginning of his love for the Lord. He lived on the New Hartford farm as a youth. Later the family moved to the City of Waterloo. Brent graduated from West High School in 1971. In 1973, Brent married Betsy Jean Taylor at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Waterloo. They have four children.

While in High School, Brent attended Hawkeyes Institute of Technology for Drafting, Die Design and Tool Design. In 1975, he did an Apprenticeship in the Trade of a Tool & Die at Schoitz Engineering Works, Inc where his own Dad worked for 27 years. Brent worked at Shoitz until he was hired by John Deere Works Factory in Waterloo from 1977-1985. There were periods of Factory Lay-offs, in which he worked as a School Bus Driver, managed 'Paradise Donut & Fountain Shop', delivered rural Postal Service mail and dappled as a Locksmith. In 1986, he moved to Kansas City to work in Skilled Trades as a Tool & Die Maker for General Motors Fairfax Plant for 27.7 years. He was an Assistant Preschool Educator at his wife Cathy's Daycare before his AD diagnosis in 2011. He married Cathy Ellen Radziej-Hanson in 2000 at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, Minnesota. Brent became Stepfather to Cathy's three minor children. Due to his Alzheimer's disease, he retired from GM in 2012 at the age of 58. In December 2014, he attended adult daycare during the day at Avonlea Care North while Cathy worked.

For decades he sang and played his hand-built banjo with his children, with his church worship band, at Nursing Homes and with the Gower Goodtimer's Club. His love of God was evident in his Christian walk and in his dedication to reading his daily bible up until his death with the exception of his wife Cathy reading for him the last few months. His ministry was through his music, helping neighbors cut trees, and asking strangers to church. He truly adored children and would make them laugh with his Donald Duck voice.

Survivors include his ex-wife Betsy, his children: Kristopher (Beth) Shaw of Holt, Sarah (Jim) Moon of Cameron, and Jeffery (Faith) Shaw of Holt. His Beloved Wife Cathy, his step-children: Luke (Allison) Radziej of Victoria, Mn, Lance (Megan) Radziej of Chaska, Mn and Lacy Radziej of Kansas City, Mo. 10 grandchildren: Nahni, Lochlan, Harlie, Cecilia, Lilliann, Amanda, Rowdy Shaw and Elijah, Savannah, Leif Moon. 7 step-grandchildren: Abigayle and Tristen Moon, Morgan Blankinship, Linnea, Ella, Reid, and Reagan Radziej. Many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Amanda Jane, infant grandson Avery, and his siblings: Ramona Segebarth, Jon Mark Shaw, and Faith Ericson.

Blessed Be His Memory and Peace be with you until we meet again.
