Obituary for Viola Faye Forson
Viola Faye Forson, known as Faye to her friends and family, was born on December 30th, 1934 in Worley, KY. In 1944, at the age of 10, her family moved to Kansas City. Faye attended Manual high school in Kansas City, MO and graduated in 1952. She met her future husband, Jack Forson, in March of 1954. They were introduced by Faye’s best friend, Jack’s cousin “Corky”, during a leave from his military duties in Korea. They became engaged a year later and were married on November 3rd, 1956. They had a wonderful marriage of 57 years and raised five children together.

Faye passed away at the age of 85 on December 6, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 Am Tuesday December 15, 2020 at Souder Family Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Burial in Leavenworth Nation Cemetery with her husband.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Jack Forson, her father and mother George and Mattie Smith, brothers Lawrence (Buddy) Smith, Danny Smith, George Smith, and sister Alma Roberts.

She is survived by her sons James Forson (Karen), Greg Forson (Tracy), daughters Karen Vogelsberg (Don), Lori Anderson (Jerry), and Susan Forson (David), sisters Joyce Hellstrom, Brenda Conley and brothers Boyce Smith and Charles Smith, as well as fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren.

Faye was proud to be a “coal miner’s daughter”. She loved to travel with her sisters, loved and collected cardinals, loved life in general…and loved Elvis! But above all, she loved her family – children, grand-children, sisters and brothers, family celebrations, family pictures, family discussions...
She helped her family in every way she could. She attended every family birthday party, graduation, and even funerals, when just walking was painful to her, simply because she didn’t want to miss being with the ones she loved.

Family gatherings will not be the same without her sweet presence. Faye loved her family and was happiest when she saw that her family loved each other. To those who knew her, both family and friends, Faye was the kindest person they knew. Words in an obituary cannot express the void in our hearts that Faye’s passing leaves.

Still, we are thankful to Jesus, the only One who can provide our hope of seeing Faye again!!

Please help celebrate the life of Viola by sharing a memory or expressing your condolences to the family.
