Obituary for Wilma Marie Meghoo
Wilma Marie Meghoo, , 79, passed away June 22, 2018. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Souder Family Funeral Home with viewing times from 2-4pm and 6-7pm, and the service at 7pm. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to PBS or Alzheimer's Foundation.
Wilma Marie Meghoo, affectionately known among family and friends as "Cherry", was born in Kingston, Jamaica on February 24, 1939 to Roland A. Donaldson and Beatrice L. Donaldson. She attended school in Jamaica, where she graduated from Convent of Mercy Academy Alpha, also known as Alpha Academy.
She was married to and divorced from Paul Meghoo, but during that marriage they had 3 wonderful children: Janice, Brigette and A. Richard.
After the divorce, "Cherry" continued her education, attending the College of Arts, Science and Technology where she studied Business Administration while simultaneously getting on-the-job Management training via the American Management Association. During this time she worked at Jamaica Industrial Development Corporation (JIDC), the first of her 5 jobs. After moving overseas to "The States", she then worked as a well-trained Executive Secretary for: - Registrar & Transfer Company, a stock transfer agent company in the Wall Street area, - Crownmark Manufacturing Company, a jewelry manufacturer in New York City - Satra Corporation, an import/export company operating in the US, Paris and the USSR - ABC TV Headquarters in NYC, where she often spilled coffee while bumping into Peter Jennings
Besides working, "Cherry" was passionate about - travelling - growing plants - taking care of children and animals - crafting - singing in the choir, and being involved at church
She retired from ABC/Disney and moved to Kansas City with her daughter, Janice, and her family to be closer to Brigette and have all her grandchildren, at that time, together. Her "S-U-N" Richard would later get married in Canada where her 4th grandchild was then born. (So much for that plan of having all her grandchildren together!)
"Cherry" was predeceased by her parents, Roland and Beatrice Donaldson, her sisters Beverley Mah Lee and Faye McCalla, and her brother Louis Donaldson. She is survived by her 3 children: Janice Prezwodek, Brigette Patterson and A. Richard Meghoo; 4 grandchildren: Christine & Jeremy Prezwodek, Karen Patterson and Talia Meghoo; her sister Andrea (Sally) Chouprouta and a very large extended JAMAICAN family!
As Mom would often say (and sing) "I know that my redeemer lives..."
