William "Bill" Wewers of Kansas City, MO passed away on March 5, 2023 at the age of 76. He was born on April 15, 1946 in Kansas City, KS to Aloysius and Gertrude Wewers. He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, KS. Bill graduated from St. Benedict's College in 1968. He was an all-around athlete and a starter on the St. Benedict's College 1967 NAIA Championship basketball team. Later, in 2017, he was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. Bill married the love of his life, Patricia Petesch, in 1969 and shared 53 years together. Bill retired in 2006 from a railroad career that took his family to California, Kansas, Iowa, and Missouri. He was a family man, an adventurer, a traveler...always ready for the next trip. He loved seeing the USA from his RV as well as visiting Bulgaria, the home of his daughter-in-law's parents. Bill also enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, his bridge and poker groups, and playing board games with his family. He gave many "cursory glances" in dramatic flair and had a booming laugh that made you feel like you were actually funny. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a devout Catholic.
Bill leaves a big hole in our family and will be greatly missed by his wife, his four children - Lisa (Joe Nolke), Amy (Scott Finazzo), Matt (Des Mihailov), Carolyn (Ryan Collier) and his six grandchildren - Will, Elayna, Kate, Ruth, Ann, and Gertie. He is survived by his brother Gary and sister Linda (David Keltner). Bill's older sister, Joanne Bates, passed away last year.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Thursday March 9, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 919 NE 96th Street, Kansas City, MO 64155, with a visitation from 9:30-10:30am. A lunch will follow the Mass. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery after the luncheon.
