Ruth Alberta DeVourney Kelly
Ruth Alberta DeVourney Kelly passed away peacefully Tuesday Nov 5, 2013 at New Mark Care Center in Kansas City MO with family in attendance. On October 9, 1927, Ruth was born in Bloomingdale NJ, one of three daughters of Robert and Clara Baird DeVourney. Ruth was predeceased by sister Betty Wrightnour Norman and survived by sister Jean Kerwin of Punta Gorda, FL. Ruth spent her childhood and most of her adult life in Bloomingdale and graduated Butler HS in 1945. Ruth was a member of the WWII US Army Cadet Nurse Corps, starting her long career in the Nursing profession. On Feb 4, 1950 Ruth married Robert Francis Kelly of Butler NJ at St Anthony de Padua RC Church in Butler, residing in Bloomingdale where she became a devoted wife and mother. Her loving husband of 47 years, Robert F. Kelly passed away on May 9, 1997. Together, Robert and Ruth had 5 sons. Ruth is survived by her sons Michael R. Kelly (Dianne), Thomas F. Kelly (Patricia), Paul Kelly, MSgt (Ret, USAF) (Kathy) and Christopher Kelly. Ruth was predeceased by her son Daniel Kelly, Jan 1961. Ruth and Bert were blessed with 8 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. SMSgt Thomas Kelly USAF, (Tauna) sons Brody, Ayden and Seth; Ashley Ensenat (Marc), Megan McCoy (Jake); Amy Kelly Chang, (Capt Adam Chang, US Army), son Brandon; Stacey Kelly; Stephanie, (James) son Tristen and daughter Ava; Kayla Kelly, and Steven Kelly. Ruth attended Nursing school, becoming a Registered Nurse and received her BS degree in Nursing. Ruth devoted herself to a very satisfying and challenging career as a Hospital Nurse and in Public Health, creating and managing the Office of Public Health Nurse for the Borough of Bloomingdale, NJ. As the Public Health Nurse, Ruth initiated clinics for newborn baby vaccinations as well as required children’s school immunizations. Ruth managed the city’s implementation of the Salk Sabin Oral Polio Vaccine program for all Bloomingdale residents. Ruth’s career as Borough Nurse lasted over 28 years. She was honored by the Borough of Bloomingdale for her service to the community and developments in the Board of Health Borough Nurse Office upon her retirement in 1992. Private Family services are pending for relatives and friends in Kansas City MO. Ruth will be interred at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church in Venice FL.
