Obituary for Ruth Bodenhamer
The passing of Edna Ruth (Daugherty) (Bruce) Bodenhamer 91, came October 24, 2015 at home in Gladstone, MO. She was born December 9, 1923 in Kansas City, MO. to Raymond A. Daugherty and Florence Oneida Daugherty(Penrose). She married and had four children, Judy Ellis, David Bruce (deceased), Peggy Tatka(deceased) and Jill McFarland.
She worked for Russell Stover's Candy Company for 7 years in downtown KC MO and then for Hallmark Cards 1965 , first in their candy factory and then in retouch with the card department. She retired from Halls in 1979 after 14 years.
In 1991 she moved to Brandon, Florida and lived there 13 years and moved back to Kansas City in 2004. While in Florida she joined AARP and was involved many years in various community projects. Upon returning to Kansas City she joined the Gladstone AARP and became active for several years. She gave many volunteer hours to the Cancer Action making laptop blankets and afghans for cancer patients at the Gladstone Community Center. For several years, she was given the highest award for most volunteer hours. She also loved making peanut brittle during the holiday season.
She is survived by one sister, Anita Jean Mogen, Connecticut, daughters, Judy Ellis, Gladstone, Mo and Jill McFarland, Omaha, NE., 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 10:30 AM Friday October 30, 2015 at Souder Family Funeral Home with a visitation from 10- 10:30 AM. Inurnment will take place following the luncheon after the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to Grace Hospice of Kansas City.
