Ronald David Covell, age 84, Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully at home on
January 9, 2026. He was born in Mt. Shasta, CA on October 23, 1941 to Alton and Amy
Godfrey Covell. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Ronald Covell Jr.,
son David Bosley and grandson Ronald (Ronnie) Bosley.
Ron was a 1959 graduate of Beaumont High School in southern CA where he lettered in
basketball. He was named to the First Team - All Riverside County his senior year.
Instead of pursuing college with a basketball scholarship, he enlisted in the U.S. Air
Force where he trained as a computer programmer. After the service, he attended the
University of Portland and worked as a computer programmer in the Pacific Northwest.
Ron moved to Missouri in the late 1960’s where he held sales and management
positions in the trucking industry in St. Louis and Springfield. In 1993 he moved to
Kansas City where he worked in the mortgage business until his retirement. He was
adventurous and loved to travel, bowl, and play racquetball. He earned his private pilot
license and enjoyed flying as well as riding his several horses he owned over the years.
Upon retirement in 2007, Ron continued to enjoy travel, visiting family around the
country and attending his many grandchildren’s sports, dance, gymnastics and chess
events. He was a member of Antioch Bible Baptist Church in Gladstone, MO. One of his
travel highlights was the church’s trip to the Holy Land in 2015.
In 1995 he married Dianne (Hertel) McClain who survives him. He is also survived by
daughters Sherry Snyder, Castle Rock, WA; Michelle Carroll (Dan), Bandon, OR;
Jennifer Call (Mike), Springfield, MO; sons David Covell (Susie), San Francisco, CA;
Matthew Covell (Amber), Columbia, MO; step-daughters Allison (McClain) Dull (Greg),
Smithville, MO; Ashley (McClain) Vaughn, Kansas City, MO; daughter-in-law Tresa
Bosley, Milton Freewater, OR; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Ron came to faith in Christ in his youth, largely influenced by his maternal grandmother
and Young Life. His faith was tested as a young adult and he wandered away for many,
many years. In his later years, he returned fully to the Lord, growing spiritually, receiving
God’s forgiveness and finding peace in God’s grace.
Ron’s family is especially grateful for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Joseph
Pleen at the KU Alzheimers Disease Center during the past several years and to his
team from Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care who cared for him with respect and
dignity in his final days-Robin, Patty, Sherry, Cathy, and Ralph.
Tax deductible donations may be made in Ron’s memory online to the KU Alzheimers
Disease Research Center by going to https://kumc.edu; Kansas City Hospice by going
to https://kchospice.org/donate; or Antioch Bible Baptist Church Missions Fund by going

A private memorial service is planned. A committal ceremony with military honors will be
held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO on January 21, 2026 at 1:00 PM which is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
