Obituary for Robert Lee Melchin
Robert (Bob) Lee Melchin returned to his Father in Heaven on July 18, 2019 following a short battle with cancer.

Bob was predeceased by his parents Otto and Gertrude Melchin, brothers Harold (Hub) and Lee and sister Theresa.

He was born on May 25, 1937 in Kewanee, IL, graduating from Weathersfield High School in 1956.

Bob immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following an honorable discharge in 1963, Bob spent his working years in the railroad and trucking industries as well as in sales.
Bob and his wife Diane loved to entertain – hosting many a Christmas party. Bob also loved to cook - his delicious burgers, pork ribs and sweet barbecue sauce were legendary. But most of all, Bob love love loved to golf with his circle of buddies in the Peoria area. He golfed regularly until last year. His farewell message to best friend, neighbor and golfing buddy John Risius was “shoot ‘em straight.” Bob was always quick with a joke – his dry sense of humor was like saw dust. Bob was thrilled to see the Cubs win their first World Series but next to his true love Diane, Bob loved da’ Bears. He never missed a game. Win or lose, Bob was a true Bears fan.
Bob and Diane moved to Kansas City on June 14, 2019 to be closer to family. Some say Bob knew he was gravely ill (there was no diagnosis) when he made the decision to sell their home, thus ensuring that Diane would have family to care for her. He fought cancer seven years ago and won. The cancer re-appeared in that same area. He passed away in the Hospice Unit of the North Kansas City Hospital with wife Diane and step-daughter Jen at his side. A family reunion of sorts occurred the night before he passed with his sons and daughters present along with grandchildren.

Bob is survived by wife Diane, sons Steve (Andrea) Melchin of Plano, TX, Michael Melchin of Georgetown, TX, step-daughters Cyrsta (Steve) Morrisey of Chicago, IL, Jennifer (Marty) Jenson of Kansas City, MO, grandchildren Brooke Kelly, Josie Jenson and Andrew Jenson, all of Kansas City, MO, Andrew Allen of Plano, TX and Michael Morrisey of Portland, OR. Special thanks to next door neighbors Craig & Angela for their kind assistance over the past several years.

The family celebrated Bob’s life privately, cherishing all those who have supported them through this journey. There are no arrangements at this time.

“In my Father’s house there are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And when I go, I will prepare a place for you, and come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, ye may be also.” John 14: 2-3

Please help celebrate the life of Bob by sharing a memory or expressing your condolences to the family.
