Obituary for Richard Lee Sander, Jr.
Richard L. (Rich) Sander, Jr. August 11, 1967 – February 15, 2016
Rich Sander passed away at home on February 15, 2016. He was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and graduated from Pattonville High School in Maryland Heights, MO and Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. Rich called Kansas City his adopted home for the past 24 years.
Rich was a true renaissance man, with interests ranging from vintage comic books to gardening. He was born a dog lover and became a martial arts enthusiast, amateur guitarist, and the best ever at-home chef with a knack for extraordinary baked goods. Rich enjoyed many years coaching youth basketball, Little League and KC Flash Baseball teams in the Northland. He worked tirelessly in his successful hospitality career, including management with Applebee’s for more than 20 years. Rich’s ‘happy place’ was playing and relaxing at the Lake of the Ozarks, enjoying a good cigar and sharing a gorgeous sunset with family and friends from his martini deck on the water. Rich loved his "stuff and his people" most of all. He loved with all he had and he will be forever loved by his friends and family. We are heartbroken.
Rich was preceded in death by his father, Richard L. Sander, Sr. Rich’s faith in God, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and zest for life lives on through his greatest loves, his wife Amy (Whitton) and his children Samantha, Richie and Sophia; his loving mother Helen Sander of St. Louis and sisters Marilyn and (Bob) Sudholt of St. Louis, Marie Bolego and Katherine Sander of St. Louis; his in-laws, Larry Whitton, Lana Whitton, and Beth Whitton of Gladstone, MO, Mindy Settles (Dan) of Kansas City, MO, and Missy Barron (Zach) of Talalala, OK; his many nieces and nephews, Jack, Ben, Reid, Tucker, Addison, Madelyn, Emily and Carolyn; and his German Shepherds, Lucy and Lilly.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, February 20 from 9am-11am. Funeral services will be held at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 919 NE 96th Street, KCMO. Burial will be immediately following the Mass at White Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sander Children Education payable to Edward Jones, 29 NW Barry Rd, Kansas City, MO 64155 .
Thank you, Amy
