Patricia “Patti” Ries, 62, passed away Saturday December 3, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Wednesday December 7, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church with rosary to be prayed at 9:30AM and burial in Resurrection North Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Souder Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to Unbound 1 Elmwood Ave. Kansas City, KS 66103.
Patti was born on March 27, 1960 to Frederick and Vivian Ries in Omaha, NE. She was raised in Omaha and graduated from Cathedral High School. She did her undergraduate studies at Creighton University where she gained her passion for service and social justice which became a very important part of her life. She had a deep appreciation for her Jesuit education. She went on to receive her Master of Business Administration degree at the University of New Mexico.
Patti launched her career at Hallmark where she worked for many years and managed Christmas ornaments that now hang in the family home. Later she joined the wonderful family at Greenies. She finished her corporate career at Compass Minerals.
Patti was very active at Holy Family Catholic Church where she and Mark have been members for many years. She was on the Pastoral Council, helped with confirmation preparation, was the liaison for St Charles Catholic School, and was a lector just to name a few. The Catholic Church was very important to her and she had a very strong faith.
Patti worked and volunteered for many non-profit organizations including United Way, Red Cross, Harvesters, most notably Unbound where she sponsored children from Honduras and Guatemala.
Patti passed the love of fishing she learned from her father on to her own family and the secret of fishing the points, pockets and pads. This legacy blossomed into an annual family vacation. Patti loved spending time with her family and they will all cherish the many card games, puzzles, storm watching and movie nights. Patti and her husband had a shared love of music especially musical theater which was passed on to their daughter Laura. Patti was a pet lover and loved her cats Hidee and Oliver.
Patti was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Vivian Ries. Survivors include her husband of 35 years Mark Nendick, son, Tim Nendick; daughter, Laura (Seth) Nendick-Berl; sisters, Janie (Mat) Davey, Mary Sutherland, Terri (Mike) Manhart, and Donna Ries and Fred Wolski; nieces and nephews, Shelly, Kris, Mat, TJ, Troy and Rob.
