Obituary for Norman "Bud" Edward Sherwood

Norman (Bud) Sherwood, 98, passed away Wednesday April 23, 2025. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday April 29, 2025 at Souder Family Funeral Home, burial with military honors to follow at Resurrection North Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday April 28th at the funeral home where the rosary will be prayed at 7:45PM.

During the years 1944-45 Norman left high school to join the United States Navy to serve his country in the midst of World War II. Upon returning from his honeymoon in December of 1950, he arrived home to find his orders in the mail to return immediately to military service whereupon he served another 17 months as a Seabee stationed in Guam during the Korean War.

His many career choices over the years included Western Electric Telephone Company, Union Pacific Railroad, working for and being one of the founders of the Gladstone Water Department, foreman of Damon Purcell Construction Company, starting his own company building monolithic manholes, supervisor of maintenance of NKC school district, Enviro Development Company in Mountain View, CA., as supervisor of ibstalations, Norm Sherwood Enterprises where he designed and built control panels for water and sewage treatment plants and also installed telemetry equipment.

Our dad had a wide variety of hobbies. During the years his children were young the family spent many weekends camping, boating and water skiing.

In 1970, Bud found his passion in the sky. He quickly earned his private pilots license and eventually purchased his own airplane where he spent as much time as he could getting as high as possible!

In later years he returned to another one of the loves of his life – Ballroom Dancing. He won numerous competitions as a teenager. And later spent many hours “dancing the night away” at the Camelot Ballroom.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife Louise; granddaughter, Shelby Louise Sherwood; grandson, Jeffrey Laurence Sanderson; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Frances Sanderson; two sister, Norma Jean Callahan and Carol Gravenstein. Survivors include his children Larry (Suzy) Sherwood, Michele (Joe) Sanderson, and John Sherwood; brother, Robert (Helen) Sherwood; grandchildren, Nicole (Brett) Schweisberger, Andrew Sanderson, Rebecca Sherwood, Jaime Sherwood, Benjamin Sanderson, Mia Sherwood, and Tessa Sherwood. 9 great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses of NKC Hospital and the staff at North Care Hospice for their amazing empathetic care and concern.

Please help celebrate the life of Bud by sharing a memory or expressing your condolences to the family.
