Nancy Alice (Duncan) Madsen passed away on March 30, 2025 at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, following a long battle with cancer with her close friend Jeanine by her side. She was a resident of Avondale, Missouri for over twenty-five years.
Nancy was born on December 21, 1946, in Highland Park, Illinois and she attended Waukegan High School in Waukegan, Illinois. She worked in the optical industry for over twenty-five years, and deeply enjoyed helping people. Nancy was also an Army wife for twenty years, living in many places with her family. She liked to decorate and cultivated a lovely home for her family while simultaneously pursuing a career outside the home.
Known for her kindness and generous spirit, Nancy was loving, supportive of others and a good listener. She took interest in others more than herself. Spiritually, Nancy was always open for prayer and to pray for others. She was talented in crafting—sewing her own clothes and reupholstering furniture in her early years, and later redecorating through QVC and the Home Shopping Network. Nancy loved stuffed animals and her hometown team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Nancy is survived by her children, Mark Madsen and Julie (Madsen) Alexander; her brother, Don Duncan; and her former husband, Howard Madsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Wiliam Duncan and Rosamond Alice (Kline) Duncan.
A ceremony for Nancy will be held at Souder Family Funeral Home, at 1333 NE Barry Road in Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation begins at 2pm, with a memorial service to follow at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that memorial contributions be made to Enhabit Hospice at https://encompasscares.org/.
