Obituary for Lynda Eichhorn
Lynda “Lyn” E. Eichhorn

On the morning of October 10, 2015, Lyn passed away in Kansas City, MO after a one month battle with brain cancer. Lyn was comforted by family members at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. Lyn was 62 years old.

Lyn was born in Des Moines, IA on April 25, 1953. She was the third child to Leonard & Evelyn Cross.

Lyn grew up in the country close to family members who lived within a quarter mile of each other. On Sunday’s, the family would attend All Saints Church in North Des Moines. Following the service, they would visit with their grandparents over dinner.

Growing up, Lyn’s brother, Joe, fondly recalls their daily adventures with their sister, Virginia, and neighbor friends. They would run around the yard and climb trees, make up their own games, and go on all day hikes. Lyn always loved going barefoot whenever possible. They grew up close to train tracks and would sometimes walk down to the parked General Mills train cars, climb between them, and watch as passenger trains flew by. During this time, they would collect the insulators for the telegraph wires that were left lying around. They were always expected to be home for family meals after a day of exploring.

Lyn was an adventurous, creative, loving, and a kind soul who lived life to it’s full potential. She didn’t take things too seriously and always brought out a smile in everyone she met.

Lyn moved to Kansas in 1977 with her children’s father, Jim Benson.

Early on in her career, Lyn had a daycare and then became a school bus driver in Derby, KS. This allowed her to have the ability to spend valuable time with her kids and attend their school functions.

Lyn’s favorite time of year was Fall and Halloween. She handmade her daughters Halloween costumes every year.

Her natural ability to care and have compassion for others led her to a 22 year career of nursing that concluded at the Kansas City Orthopedic Institute in Leawood, KS. She absolutely loved her profession because it never felt like a job. Her day following work would culminate by calling her daughters to follow up on their day.

Lyn’s hobbies consisted of creating mosaic wall art, shopping at boutiques, singing, and spending time with her kids and grandkids.

More recently she coined the term “Cancun Texas” in reference to her daughters house in Texas. It was her favorite getaway when she would vacation.

To those who knew Lyn the most, she was inexhaustibly devoted to providing support and a hand whenever needed, day or night. She loved love and those who loved her. She was a believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This leaves our family comforted knowing that she is at peace and enjoying everlasting life.

Lyn is preceded in death by her children’s father, Jim Benson; father, Leonard Cross; daughter, Jessica Eve. Survivors include her daughters, Arin Gage (Brian) and Taesha Spire-Sweet (Travis); mother, Evelyn Cross; brother, Joe Cross; sister, Virginia Friend; grandchildren, Austyn Sutton, Braedyn Gage, Casyn Gage and Jackson Spire-Sweet.

A celebration of Lyn’s life will be held on Saturday October 17, 2015 at 10:00am in the Wesley Covenant Chapel at the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. Address: 13720 Roe Ave., Leawood, KS, 66224.

Please help celebrate the life of Lynda by sharing a memory or expressing your condolences to the family.
