Obituary for Lila Katherine Langford
Lila Katherine Langford, 83, passed away Monday August 22, 2022. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Gashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church 8029 N Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, MO 64118 on Saturday, September 10th, 2022. Visitation from 10am-11am with services begins at 11am.
Lila was preceded in death by her parents, Oma and George Engel; sister, Carol Villines; brother in law Paul Schieber; daughter in law, Diana Langford; ex-husband, Don Langford; and sister in law, Janice Seltsam.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Jim and Dr. Angela Langford of Kansas City, Mo., Doug and Tracy Langford of Prairie Village, KS and Patrick and Rebecca Dority of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren and spouses, Wes and Laryn Langford, Samuel and Samantha Langford, Joe and Amanda Langford, Olivia and Quinn Armstrong, Grace Langford, Madison Langford, Natalie and Chelsie Masenthin, Elijah and Ella Dority, Isaac Dority, Andrew Dority, and Jacob Dority; great grandchildren, Lennon Masenthin and Sophia Langford; sister, Anne Schieber of Harrison Arkansas, Aunt Jo Alden, Brother in law, Paul Villines of Ponca Arkansas; nieces, Shelley Gardner (Edward) of Newport, North Carolina and Jennifer Clark (Danny Ray) of Jasper, Arkansas; nephews, Webb Durrett (Susan) of Loganville, Georgia, Joe Villines (Genevieve) of Boxley Arkansas and Patrick Villines (Mattie) of Boxley, Arkansas.
Lila attended Baker University and was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. Lila was a centennial beauty queen at Baker University. She married Don Langford and later completed her BA, in History from Avila College in 1973. She went on to teach History and American Government and coached the girls volleyball team at Hickman Mills High School. She was noted among her students as their favorite teacher. When she retired from teaching she went to work for Revco as a trainer, and later worked for The University of Kansas Medical Center as Senior Training Coordinator for 17 years.
Lila accepted Christ as her savior in her youth and as an adult attended Gashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo. until her death on August 22nd 2022. Lila loved to participate in around the table, the book club summer social, the barbeque group summer social, and Conversations where she enjoyed fellowshipping with new people. Lila loved reading, especially books on history.
