Joyce Jeanette (Sherrill) Parrish
Joyce Jeanette Parrish, 93, formerly of Wellington, KS, passed away September 22, 2021, at Avonlea Care Homes North, Kansas City, Missouri.
Joyce Parrish was born October 3, 1927, to Rev. Ural Stewart Sherrill and Alice Myrtle (Marshall) Sherrill in Mobeetie, Texas. After high school graduation, she attended McMurry University in Abilene, Texas and graduated in 1949. On August 18, 1951, she married Owen Stanford Parrish Jr. He preceded her in death in 2002.
In 1969 they moved to Wellington, Kansas and she worked at The Panhandle Federal Credit Union until she retired in 1983. After retirement, Owen and Joyce would spend many summers in Red River, New Mexico.
She enjoyed watching western movies and listening to The Gaither’s especially Lynda Randle who she personally met. She is survived by her children, Richard Parrish of Shawnee, Kansas, and Sheryl (Tony) Castillo of Kansas City Missouri; grandson Chris Castillo Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughters Gina (Danny) Ellis Wellington, Kansas, and Hollie Castillo Kansas City, Missouri; brother Tommy Sherrill of Dalhart, Texas; sister-in-law Wanda (Marvin) Sherrill of Arlington, Texas; 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen; her parents; her brothers Nelson and Marvin Sherrill and her sisters Mary Alice “Sherry” Powell and Betty Helwig.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. If attending, the family requests that all guests wear a face mask.
A memorial and graveside service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Wellington, Kansas on Friday October 8, 2021, at 11:00, If attending, the family requests that all guests wear a face mask.
A memorial is established with Crossroads Hospice, 14310 E. 42nd Street South Unit 600, Independence, Missouri 64055.
