Obituary for John Parks
John Parks, 75, passed away February 7, 2015 at St Luke's Plaza Hospital. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday February 12, 2015 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with a visitation from 9-10 AM. Burial will be 1:00 PM Friday in Calvary Cemetery, Wichita, KS. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association or to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

John started early in his life of service, receiving an award of merit at age 11 for seeing his peers cross the street at school as a safety patrol leader, He then volunteered at his sons’ school as a fund raiser as well as a little league umpire.

John served his church at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by being sacrastian, extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, alter server and lector. He founded the Cathedral Guild, the St Joseph Gift Shop and started the Knights of Columbus, Msgr Fiedler Council 14489, of which he was the first Grand Knight.

John joined the US Marine Corps at age 17. He also served in the Air Force. He enjoyed science fiction movies and TV shows and was a an avid reader of mystery novels. He loved watching the Royals and Chiefs.

With his wife, Mary Margaret he traveled to Rome and the Holy Land with Bishop Finn. Along with their brothers and sisters they visited the Carribean, Hawaii, Mediteranian and Ireland.

John is proceeded in death by his parents, Leslie and Dorthea Parks; infant son, Michael Joseph Parks; and brother, Jerry Parks. Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret Parks of the home; sons, John Parks Jr., and Craig Parks; Mary Margaret's children, Ben Bowers, Matt Bowers, Susie Bowers, and Brad Bowers; brother, Leslie Parks; sister, Jackie Gill; ex-wife Norma Parks and numerous grandchildren.
