Obituary for John F. Lutjen
JOHN FREDERICK LUTJEN, 70, of Kansas City North, Missouri, passed away on May 19, 2017, at North Kansas City Hospital.
John was born on October 14, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, and was raised by his parents, Cora and Marvin Lutjen, in Sedalia, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas. John was very devoted to his parents and three younger sisters.
In 1964, John graduated from Turner High School in Kansas City, Kansas, and studied at Kansas University and Finlay Engineering College, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1969.
John worked at Leo Martell & Associates and Buford & Lutjen prior to founding John F. Lutjen & Associates in 1984, in Kansas City, Missouri. John never took his success for granted, and was forever grateful for his loyal clients and dedicated employees.
On November 20, 1987, John married Nancy Smith Medaris, who survives. Also surviving: one son, Chad Lutjen; daughters, Shelly Thompson, Margie Tyler and Michelle Medaris.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Sydney Lutjen, Taylor Lutjen, Madelyn Thompson, Cash Claussen, and Darby, Molly and Sophia Tyler. Three sisters, Vicki (Howard) Stutes, Penny (Tom) Adams, and Nancy Coffin. Nephews Nick, Kurt and Kyle Adams, and James Coffin; nieces Marla Austin, Ricka Stutes, and Brooke and Kristin Coffin. As well as many extended family members and friends.
John is also survived by his loyal and loving Shih Tsu, Raymond, who misses him dearly.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 24th, 2017, at Souder Family Funeral Home, 1333 NE Barry Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64155. Visitation from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m., services to follow at 1:00 p.m.
