John Calvin Meredith of Parkville, MO went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2020. John, the youngest of 8 siblings, was born at home in Barr, MS on Feb. 24, 1926 to Kyle and Effie Meredith. He graduated from Whitehaven (TN) High School in 1945 and immediately joined the Air Force, serving from 1945 to 1948, obtaining the rank of Corporal.
The Meredith family moved from Whitehaven to Batesville, MS where he met the love of his life Sarah Jean Murphree on a blind date. They eloped on August 16, 1947. John and Jean celebrated their 73rd anniversary 15 days before his passing. To this union three children were born: John Randy (Cindy) Meredith of Kimberling City, MO; Jan Meredith Barton of Parkville, MO; and Mark Stephen (Brenda) Meredith of Ypsilanti, MI. In addition he had 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
John was a godly man who loved reading his Bible and studying the Word. He lived out his faith by giving of his time and talents as an aviation mechanic and jack-of-all-trades. He had a dry sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A service, including military honors, will be held on Saturday September 5, 2020, 11:00am at the Souder Funeral Home, 1333 NE Barry Rd., Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A grave-side family service will take place in Pope, MS at the Chapel Hill cemetery on Monday, September 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s name to Faith Baptist Church, 14450 N 169 Hwy Suite 1, Smithville, MO 64089, or to Thru the Bible Radio, P.O. Box 7100, Pasadena, CA 91109.
Please help celebrate the life of John by sharing a memory or expressing your condolences to the family.
