Gene Gael Duckworth, of Gladstone, Missouri, passed away at his home on June 16, 2023 after a tough cancer battle.
He is survived by his grade school sweetheart and loving wife of 45 years, Debra, by his four beloved daughters, Gina, Courtney, Toni, and Chelsea, by his incredible sons-in-law, and 11 cherished grandchildren. He also left behind 2 brothers, Devin and Shawn, his mother-in-law, Gerry, sisters-in-law, and their families.
He was a Missouri native, and at St. Pius X High School in Kansas City, he broke multiple track records, two of which still stand. A career master pipefitter and master welder, Gene was a hard worker and skilled tradesman who built and owned successful businesses, but also one who loved a good laugh, and who could get others rolling in laughter with him.
He never forgot a name, and developed relationships with people wherever he went, from his banker, to his favorite caregivers, and the lawn guy. He blessed people in unexpected ways with his generosity and desire to recognize their value.
In his free time, he was a master of countless crafts. He built and raced a car in amatuer competions, and was an avid boater, water skier, and camper, making decades of memories at Lake Pomme de Terre with his mother, brothers, and friends, with Debbie and his girls, and eventually with his grandchildren. He was an outdoorsman, a biker (from Harleys to mopeds), a gardener, a "piddler" who could fix anything, and a talented cook and pitmaster. His appreciation for good food of all kinds cannot be overstated, but even greater was his eagerness to share a delicious meal (and life's other enjoyments) with those he loved most. To his family, Gene was a teacher, a coach, a provider, a role model, a strong shoulder, a dad who could always be counted on, a loving husband, and so much more.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Strub.
The family wishes to thank the many family and friends (and those who became friends along this journey) who kept him and those closest to him in their prayers, and supported in ways too numerous to mention.
"Time is all we have" Gene
