Obituary for Emmy Lou Thomas
Thomas, Emmy Lou “Amy” age 88, 1932-2021.

Born November 25th, 1932 she passed into Gods loving arms July 13th, 2021.

Emmy Lou came into this world during the ‘great depression’ of the 1930’s. Born at home to her Mother, Amy (Sondergard) Hansen and Father Carl Hansen. She was the last of four children preceded by brothers Ed, Ted and her loving sister Marie.

Emmy attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Ia graduating in 1951. She married F. Gary Kirk on September 3rd, 1955 after a sweet courtship. Upon graduating from H.S. Emmy had worked at Mutual of Omaha eventually leaving to raise their two sons, Jeffry Alan and Steven Michael Kirk.

Gary passed away on January 27th, 1981. Emmy eventually moved to Lake Ozark, Mo. There on July 28th, 2004 she married her second husband Morris Thomas.

She enjoyed traveling having visited numerous other countries, hosting friends at her lake homes, and doing anything with her Grandsons. Her happy laughter made it fun to be with her. Family time was always special and she is fondly remembered for making everyone feel welcome in her home. She had the ability to make friends easily and leaves behind a lot of special people who will miss her terribly.

Amy is survived by her oldest son, Jeff his wife Lori, their children Alan Jacob – youngest, Eric John, his wife Mollie, their children Ellie and Maggie. Daughter-in-law, Jodi, grandson Zachary Ryan and great grandson Oxli, brother-in-law Kenny Elwood; her nieces Sue Jens and Jeannie Sorensen and nephew Chris Elwood.

Preceding Emmy in death are her parents Amy and Carl Hansen; her three siblings Ed Hansen brother, sister-in-law Harriet; Ted Hansen brother, sister-in-law Esther; and sister Marie Elwood, her first husband Gary, youngest son Steven, grandson Thadeus, and second husband Morris.

Graveside services will be for immediate family on a yet to be determined date. Memorials in her name can be made to:

One final message from Amy in her notes to us, “I Love All of You – Your Mom and Grandma.” “Love, Laugh and Live……. + Travel (Alan).”
