Obituary for Eleonore Jennings
Eleonore (Gehring) Jennings, 93 of Kansas City, MO, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019. Visitation will be Monday, December 23, from 09:30 AM to 10:30 AM, at Souder Family Funeral Home, 1333 NE Barry Rd., KCMO. Memorial Service will start at 10:30, with burial to follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Rd., Leavenworth, KS at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association of America.
Eleonore was born August. 26, 1926 in Winterthur, Switzerland to Joseph and Emilie (Griessinger) Gehring. She grew up in Zurich, Switzerland, where she learned to become a beautician. On a vacation train ride to Vienna, Austria , she met the love of her life and future husband William (Bill) Jennings of 65 years. They were married in Winterthur, Switzerland on November 23, 1954. After getting married, she returned to the United States with Bill and began their new life together in Kansas City. It was here that she had one of her proudest moments in becoming as United States Citizen, which she cherished through her life. For the next thirty years Eleonore traveled with Bill all over the world as an Air Force Wife. Together they were able to fulfill their passion of world travel. During this time, Eleonore was a proud homemaker who made sure that every household event or occasion went smoothly and important dates were never forgotten. After her "Air Force" life, she finally was able to settle down in Leavenworth, Kansas, where she got to enjoy her retirement years travelling and tending her flowers in her garden. In recent years, Eleonore was an avid reader and enjoyed working on daily puzzles, which she continued to do despite memory issues in her later years. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love, care and good wishes while watching after her in her final years.
Eleonore was preceded in death by her husband, William Eugene Jennings who passed away on December 27, 2018. She is survived by her son Douglas Jennings; grandchildren Renee Black, Brett and Drew Jennings; great grandchildren Beckham and Anderson Black, and Charlotte Jennings; nephews Steve and Chris Weber; niece Wendy Kruger. The family would also like to thank Anthology of Burlington Creek Senior Living for all their love and making her final years peaceful.
