Obituary for Edward Ray Sager
Edward (Ed) Ray Sager, 82, of Kearney, MO, passed away on August 15, 2021.
Ed was born on November 28th 1938 to Raymond (Ray) and Inez Sager in Jackson County, MO at K.C. General Hospital. Preceded in death by his infant daughter, Nora Sager, his father, Raymond Sager and his mother Inez Gifford.
Ed is survived by his wife, Vivian Faye Sager of Kearney, MO; his sister Pat Vetter of Kansas City, MO; his children Mark Sager of Chickasha, OK; Roger Sager of Shawnee, KS; Debbie Pike and her husband, Jay, of Nevada, MO; and stepchildren Brenda Moore-Wells and her husband, Steve, of Liberty, MO; Rhonda Moore, of Kansas City, MO; Ray Moore and his wife, Cindi, of Platte City, MO; and Vivian Phillips and her husband, Ron, of Kansas City, MO.
9 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Ed was known as a Brother, Father, Uncle, Grandfather, Paw Paw, Great Paw Paw and a Beloved Husband.
Ed grew up in Riverside, Missouri. On June 26, 1957 he began working for Ford in Lenexa, Kansas at the Parts Depot. Ed continued to work for Ford until his retirement on February 1, 1994. He had worked in the parts department in inventory control, his peers recognized him as a great union man.
It was on April 16th, 1982 that Ed married Faye, his wife of 39 years.
Ed was a military man in the Marines. No matter where Ed was if he saw someone with any military shirt or hat, regardless of the branch of service he would ALWAYS thank them for their service and strike up a conversation.
He had many hobbies. He was a specialist in Herter’s guns, hunting, camping and fishing supplies. For those of you unfamiliar with Herter’s, they existed before Cabela’s or even Wal-Mart, it was a mail order catalog where serious fisherman (or woman) got their supplies. Ed was a large collector of Herter items and probably knew more than the owner’s did. Ed even published a book on Herter’s reloading equipment, presses and dies. He was known throughout the world for his knowledge.
Ed loved setting up at gun shows; his Saturday morning Swap and Shop’s; Dog Day’s in Ardmore, TN; estate sales and garage sales. If you wanted to keep up with him at any one of these, you’d better have your fastest shoes on because once there, he was gone on a journey to locate that pot of gold, not only for himself but all others!
He was a history buff, an expert on guns and reloading equipment, and someone who made a friend everywhere he went. He was full of knowledge and stories, and was not shy of sharing his stories to any and every one who would listen.
He enjoyed hunting wild boars, deer’s, squirrels and of course raccoons!
Ed and Faye also enjoyed many RV trips from state to state and the annual family reunion trips to Alabama/Tennessee from year to year and his trips up to Toot-toot’s (Bethany, MO) which was one of his favorite restaurants.
In Ed’s later years he became a Patrick Mahomes fan and a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Ed has been an inspiration to all his friends and family. He will live forever in our hearts.
A memorial service and celebration of Ed’s life will take place Saturday, August 21, 2021, beginning with visitation at 3:00 PM and a memorial service to follow at 4:00 PM.
