David Thomas Hicks, of Warsaw, Missouri and most recently Gladstone, Missouri, grabbed his fishing pole and jumped aboard his boat for the last time at the age of 74 on October 17, 2022.
David was born on July 20th, 1948 in Port Huron, Michigan to the late Warren (Bud) and Lois Hicks.
David was married to “my girl”, Carol Sue Hicks, for nearly 45 years.
David was a graduate of Troy High School in Troy, MI, class of 1966. He lived in Toledo, Ohio for a few years and then moved to Kansas City, Missouri.
His family spent many weekends at Riverside Speedway and Lakeside Speedway cheering on David “Tuffie” Hicks #78 all the way to the finish line. He visited several NASCAR races and had a collection of diecast NASCAR’s that he kept in his “MANCAVE”.
Dave’s favorite things included being on the water. He enjoyed watching the freighters go by in Port Huron, sailing the “Ticon” at Smithville Lake, and fishing on a Sunday morning in his boat with his friends or alone, being at peace with himself. He enjoyed having a beer and conversation while grilling on his deck with family and friends. He loved to read about all types of ships. He loved watching the freighters on boatnerd.com and sharing his passion with his wife as they tried to identify the ships. He had a large collection of history books and artwork.
He was man of little words but his work ethic and providing for his family never fell short. You could feel every ounce of his love in his hugs.
David was preceded in death by his parents Warren (Bud) and Lois Hicks.
David is survived and deeply loved by his wife Carol of 44 years; sister: Linda Olah; brother: Robert (Yvonne) Hicks; brother: James (Marsha) Hicks. His three “daughts”: Jenni Roth (Dan); Melinda Orr (Jay); Michele Burge (Randy); and his son: Danial Hicks; grandchildren: Alexa (Nick); Kaila; Camryn; Jack; Erin; Lilly; Sarah; Ryan and Noah.
Cards, flowers, or a plant can be sent to Carol Hicks at NewMark Care Center: 11221 N. Nashua Drive Room 312 B, Kansas City, MO 64155.
A celebration of life “Deck Party” will be held in the Spring of 2023.
