Carl Ray Caylor was born in Kansas City, MO on November 3, 1956 to Charles and Julia Caylor of Independence, MO. Carl was always a good student who did well in school. Carl had a natural aptitude for repairing things, a skill he started developing at a young age. Carl excelled in singing in the church choir and at middle and high school levels, occasionally being taped for solo work. Carl also loved to participate in sports, and had a couple of very successful seasons at the position of pitcher in a high school age church baseball league, striking out 17 batters in one game.
Carl, 57, passed away May 4, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Thursday, May 8th at Desperation Church, Liberty MO with a visitation from 10 – 11 AM. Burial will be in Lawson cemetery. He is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Suanne, his two children, Jennifer (Jeff) Houghtlin and Jesse Caylor, and one grandchild, Cole Houghtlin. He is also survived by his siblings Cheryl (Robert) Butcher, Carol (Ron) Lopez, and Calvin Caylor.
Carl’s life’s work and ministry were dedicated to the Lord. His employment included working 11 years at Maranatha Christian Academy and 9 years at City Union Mission in the men’s learning center. In later years, he worked for The Good Will and Salvation Army Thrift Stores. His ministry included 4 ½ years at Full Faith City Church, working with the inner city youth, also leading youth groups, adult home groups, and Alpha courses at various churches throughout the years. Worship was his passion, and he was part-time worship leader at Gladstone Baptist Church and Meadowbrook United Methodist Church. He received his Pastoral Certificate from Full Faith Church of Love Bible College and completed the chaplain program at Research Hospital, also taking on-line courses in the Jewish roots of the Christian faith.
