Obituary for Bernita Verdell Freeman
Bernita Verdell Freeman (Eckhardt), 88, passed away June 13, 2020 after bravely fighting a long battle with dementia. Bernita was born April 19th 1932 in Rochelle, Illinois to Edward Eckhardt and Ella Eckhardt (Schlie). She was the youngest of 8 siblings and was an identical triplet, which were the first set of surviving triplets born in Ogle County Illinois.

Bernita graduated from Rochelle Township High School. She worked many jobs including being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker, plus outside the home as a private secretary and worked in food service. She enjoyed reading, watching her favorite TV shows, traveling, people watching, and a good cup of coffee. But most of all she dearly loved her children and being with them, and they dearly loved her.

She was preceded by her mother, Ella Eckhardt (Schlie); father, Edward Eckhardt; sisters, Ruth, Ester, Elanore, and Phyllis; triplet brother Robert (Bob). Survivors include her son, Alan Robert Freeman (daughter-in-law Mallika) (granddaughters Emma and Rachel); daughter, Lisa Beaird (Freeman) (son-in-law Jim); triplet sister, Bernice; sister, Betty; and numerous nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Alzheimer’s Association.

Please help celebrate the life of Bernita by sharing a memory or expressing your condolences to the family.
