Barry D. Viesselman, 73, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026. Born on January 18, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, Barry was the beloved son of Blanche and Elmer Viesselman. He spent his childhood and early years in St. Louis, where he developed the strong work ethic, sense of humor, and devotion to family that would define his life.
While attending Benedictine College, Barry met the love of his life, Kathy Hodes. Their relationship blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were married on November 6, 1976. Together they built a loving home and family, first welcoming their daughter, Katie, and four years later their son, Christopher.
Barry and Kathy began their life together in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, where they started their family. After their children were born, they moved to the Woodbridge neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri. There, they found not only a home but also a community, forming lifelong friendships with neighbors who quickly became like family. Later, Barry and Kathy fulfilled their dream of country living by moving to acreage in Raymore, Missouri, where they enjoyed the peace and space of rural life while continuing to raise their family and welcome friends and loved ones.
Barry enjoyed successful careers with North Supply and ADT, but his true passion was real estate. Pursuing that passion, he founded KateChristopher Realty, a business named in honor of his children. He dedicated himself to serving others through his work and remained active in the business until his retirement.
Above all else, Barry treasured his family. He took great pride in being a father and grandfather and found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren. Whether sharing stories, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying their company, his happiest moments were spent with those he loved most.
Barry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy Viesselman; and his parents, Blanche and Elmer Viesselman.
He is survived by his daughter, Katie (Viesselman) Thorne, her husband Brandon Thorne, and their children, Bentley and Hunter Thorne; his son, Christopher Viesselman, and his wife, Samantha Viesselman; and their children, Mya and Bradford Wigginton, all of whom held a special place in Barry’s heart.
After losing Kathy, Barry often spoke of how much he missed her and looked forward to being reunited with her. Eighteen months after her passing, he joined her once again.
Barry will be remembered for his devotion to family, entrepreneurial spirit, kind heart, and the love he shared so freely with those around him. His memory will live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
