Obituary for Arlette Anne Marie Louise Filleul Elliott
ARLETTE ANNE MARIE LOUISE FILLEUL ELLIOTT
10/19/31 – 8/22/18
Arlette was born in the Brittany region of France to Eugene and Simone Filleul. Her father passed when she was very young and she was raised by her mother and grandmother, Anne Marie Pasgrimaud, both very strong, independent women with incredible faith. Arlette attended boarding school at Notre Dame des Anges and for many years thought she would join the convent. While attending the university in Birmingham, England, she worked as an au pair, and came to realize her love for children and her desire to be a mom. As a teenager and young adult, Arlette led a very full life and had the opportunity to meet Pope Pius XII, as well as Queen Elizabeth.

Arlette met her husband, David Elliott, in her home town of La Baule, France, where she was an interpreter and David was an officer for the US Army. David returned to the States after a period of time to finish his degree but flew back to France to marry Arlette. They then settled in Columbus, Ohio, to begin their married life and start a family. David and Arlette shared David’s love of American football and Arlette quickly became one of the Ohio State Buckeyes’ biggest fans.

Arlette’s life centered around her children, Nathalie, Kevin (Marla) and Stephanie (Barry) and her grandchildren, Nathan, Allison and Christian. She instilled in each of them the importance of giving back and helping those in need. She supported them in all of their endeavors, including sports and academics, while teaching them the importance of a strong work ethic in all aspects of their lives.

Arlette’s love of young children led her to her work with special needs children in schools and caring for infants at La Petite Academy, her dream job from which she retired at the age of 75. Many young parents benefitted from her child rearing wisdom and love of children.
In addition to her children, Arlette is survived by her two sisters, Ghislaine Hill and Beatrix Rousseau, both of France. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her infant son, David.

A funeral mass will be said at Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, August 27th at 10:00 am, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am. Private burial to follow. In Arlette’s memory, you are encouraged to perform a good deed as she was known to always thank those who were helpful by telling them they had done “their good deed for the day”. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at https://pages.lightthenight.org/mid/KSCity18/teamnat or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org would be appreciated.

Please help celebrate the life of Arlette by sharing a memory or expressing your condolences to the family.
