Anna Sue "Suzy" Gilkison passed away on April 24, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 82.
Born on August 17, 1942, Anna was the daughter of Ralph John and Ella Mae Hobson. She grew up alongside her siblings: Ralph J. Hobson Jr., Rose Lee Cooke Holiman, Wade Hobson, and Thomas Hobson in Bakersville NC.
Anna shared a devoted marriage with Clarence Earl Gilkison Jr., and together they raised their son, Michael Earl Gilkison. Her family continued to grow with her grandchildren, Melissa Gilkison Freeman, Michael Gilkison Jr., Tristan Wood, and Drayden Wood, and her great-granddaughter, Eliana Freeman.
She maintained close bonds with her extended family, including her sisters-in-law Bertha Gilkison Ohl, Linda Hobson, Elaine Gilkison Simpson, Linny Hobson, and Janet Gilkison Hahner Smith. Anna was also cherished by her nieces and nephews: Bill Cooke, Jeff Cooke and Lisa Cooke Byrd; Robert, Mark, and Laura Sue Ohl; Mollie Hobson Schulman; Denise and Joe Simpson; Donna and Mandy Hobson; Tiffany and Leslie Hahner. Her love extended to her grand-niece Sara Elizabeth Byrd, great-grand-nephew Mason Jones and both daughter in law’s Jennifer Wood Gilkison and Melinda Gawthrop Gilkison Sullender.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Ella Mae Hobson; her husband Clarence Earl Gilkison Jr.; her brother-in-law Richard Holiman; her nieces Lisa Cooke Byrd and Tiffany Hahner.
Throughout her life, Anna demonstrated unwavering love and devotion to her family. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her. May her legacy of love continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
A viewing to honor Anna’s life will be held at Souder Family Funeral Home in Kansas City Mo. Her last request was to return home and be buried in the family plot in Bakersville NC. A viewing and funeral will be held at Yancey Funeral Services information will be updated when the services have been scheduled. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
