Ann Margaret Scott, 76, passed away Monday August 7, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday August 10, 2023 at Faith Community Church with a visitation from 1-2PM. Burial in Second Creek Cemetery.
Ann Scott was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Elsie Cubberley. Ann leaves behind a precious family, her husband Gary, her children Gary Jr., Gretchen, and Jennifer and her extended family, Jennifer and Jake with their children Scott, Colin, Caroline, Ella, Emery, Lanie and Lizzie and Gretchen and Kent Baker with their children Jordan and Morgan. Ann is survived by her brothers families, Mark and Rennie with sons Ben and Andy and Tim Cubberley with his two daughters Becky and Emmy.
Ann Scott was a beautiful bouncing baby boomer born to Elsie and Harry Cubberley in Trenton, New Jersey in 1946. Harry was a home builder who taught Ann to spackle and paint walls and go to the job sites with him. Elsie was the consummate house keeper, cook, and devoted mother. Ann was an only child for the first ten years until her two brothers Mark and Tim were born; she joyfully became their second mother. Ann worked for the A&P as a bookkeeper and attended Trenton State University. She transferred to Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit to learn the Bible and grow in her new-found faith in Jesus Christ and to prepare to be an elementary school teacher.
It was there that she met and married Gary Scott. Gary and Ann Moved to Philadelphia for seminary training. During the seminary years Gary Jr. and Gretchen were born. Ann and Gary moved to rural Ohio to pastor their first church; Jennifer was born during those years. Gary and Ann went on to Pastor churches in Georgia, Illinois, New York, and Tennessee. They moved to Kansas City nearly eight years ago to be with family.
Ann taught Kindergarten and First Grade in Heritage Christian School in Dalton, Georgia and then worked in airline reservations for Air South in both South Carolina and New York City. Ann loved NYC and made hundreds of trips, often with her grandchildren, to enjoy the Big Apple; she loved Central Park, Times Square, and the farmers market at Union Square, as well as the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving parade.
Ann was a great homemaker, a skilled seamstress, and a wonderful cook (she has hundreds of cook books that she loved to read, use, and share). Ann was a great mother in every way; she was a special mother to Gary Jr. for 53 years and had a special and unique Mother-Daughter relationship with both Gretchen and Jennifer. She was a super Grammy and was relentless in her effort to be with them and share her zest for life and adventure. The thousands of pictures are a testimony to Ann’s love for them.
Ann was the noble wife described in Proverbs 31. Words can’t describe her generous and giving spirit to both family and friends. Ann’s partnership in ministry was awesome; much of the credit Gary got as pastor should really have gone to Ann. Many of the ladies she has known through the years still consider Ann a friend and confidant.
Ann loved Jesus Christ but even more important is that Jesus loved Ann and in saving her implanted in her the kind and generous spirit that everyone saw and enjoyed. Praise be to God for creating Ann as a unique image bearer, saving her by his grace, and sharing her with her family and friends for 76 wonderful years.
Please help celebrate the life of Ann by sharing a memory or expressing your condolences to the family.
